Bringing Change through Experience
As a resident of Alaska for 40 years, I have lived with my husband Mark and our daughter Amelia in West Anchorage for 26 years. We cherish the lifestyle Alaska offers, enjoying the snowy winters and breathtaking summers that allow us to engage in a variety of outdoor activities. Our home is filled with the love of many pets, reflecting our appreciation for the natural beauty and wildlife of our state.
My journey in Alaska has been profoundly shaped by the opportunities available here. I want Amelia to experience the same boundless possibilities and to grasp hold of her dreams as I have. These opportunities were inspired and made possible by the unique spirit of Alaska and its people.
I have served our community in various capacities, gaining valuable experience that I believe can bring positive change to our state. My background includes:
Public Service:
With a career dedicated to public service, I have worked to ensure that our community's needs are met with integrity and dedication. My roles have ranged from local government positions to state-level responsibilities, giving me a comprehensive understanding of the issues we face.
Community Involvement:
Actively participating in local organizations and community projects, I have built strong relationships and a deep understanding of the concerns and aspirations of our residents. This involvement has been instrumental in shaping my vision for a better Alaska.
Education Advocacy:
As a strong proponent of education, I have fought for school choice, ensuring that every family can make the best decisions for their children's education. I believe that a robust education system is the foundation of our future success.
Economic Development:
I have consistently advocated for policies that support business growth, reduce taxes and regulations, and foster a thriving economy. My focus has always been on creating an environment where businesses can flourish and provide opportunities for all Alaskans.
Balanced Budget:
I am committed to fiscal responsibility, advocating for a balanced budget that mirrors the financial discipline we maintain in our own businesses and family budgets. This includes adhering to the Alaska Constitution when calculating the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), which belongs to the citizens of Alaska.
My vision for Alaska is one of a secure and prosperous future, built on the strength and resilience of its people. I am passionate about working towards this future by leveraging my experience, dedication, and the collective spirit of our community. Together, we can create an Alaska where every resident has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
Liz Vazquez for House District 16
I have great hope and enthusiasm for the future of Alaska, not because we are in a good economic position, but because we are in a time of real challenge. My hope and enthusiasm stem from the strength, determination, imagination, and faith of the people of Alaska. We pull together during difficult times and make things better.
I love that about this place I call home. I want to be a part of creative solutions that draw from the best we have to offer. I want to show our children that hard work, logical planning, and cooperation among people who respect each other and value input create an atmosphere where everyone benefits.
We do not need the government to take care of us. We need our government to support us by encouraging business with fewer taxes and regulations, by allowing school choice so every family can make the best decisions for their children, by sticking to the Alaska Constitution when calculating the PFD, which belongs to the citizens of Alaska, and by working toward a balanced budget, just like we expect in our own businesses and family budgets.
Can we have a secure and prosperous future? Of course we can, we’re Alaskans!
